Recording

Nitty Gritty recorded Sweet Reggae Music for Prince Jammy, with the single issued on Jammy's Records in 1986 and arranged by Prince Jammy, Steely, and Clevie. UK Unity Sounds pressings also circulated the computerised mix during the same mid-1980s digital dancehall period. The track became part of Nitty Gritty's mid-1980s run of Jammy's recordings, issued in the wake of the Sleng Teng breakthrough. It placed his high, nasal vocal style over the clean digital production language that defined King Jammy's catalogue. Sweet Reggae Music remains one of Nitty Gritty's better-known Jammy-era sides and appears on later anthologies of King Jammy's roots and digital productions. It preserves the singer's role in the first wave of computerised Jamaican dancehall.
