Sitting and Watching
Dennis Brown · 1980Dennis Brown recorded Sitting and Watching for Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare's Taxi label, with Sly and Robbie credited as producers and writers alongside Brown. The single was issued in 1979 with Sly and Robbie's Dub Wise on the B-side and later appeared on the 1980 album Spellbound. The track marked one of Brown's key collaborations with Sly and Robbie at the start of the 1980s. Its restrained vocal performance and Taxi production placed him within the emerging rhythm-section-led sound that bridged late roots reggae and early dancehall. Sitting and Watching remains one of Dennis Brown's best-known late-1970s singles and a durable part of his live and compilation repertoire. The rhythm became strongly associated with Brown and Taxi and continued to circulate through later reggae reissues and remixes.
