The Tide Is High
The Paragons · 1967Recording
Recorded in 1967 at Treasure Isle in Kingston, Jamaica, with John Holt on lead vocals and accompaniment by Tommy McCook and the Supersonics. The session also featured the violin of “White Rum” Raymond. Issued as a Treasure Isle single, the track became one of the defining rocksteady recordings associated with The Paragons and John Holt. It helped закрепить the group’s smoother rocksteady style and became a notable Jamaican and UK favorite through the late 1960s and early 1970s. The song became globally best known through Blondie’s 1980 hit cover and later Atomic Kitten’s 2002 version. It also remained part of reggae’s core repertoire through versions and deejay reinterpretations, including U-Roy’s 1971 take.
