Same Song

Recorded in Jamaica under producer Bunny Lee as part of Delroy Wilson’s early-1970s run of reggae covers. The track is a version of the Four Tops song “It’s the Same Old Song.” The song showed Wilson adapting a Motown hit into the Jamaican reggae style that Bunny Lee was pushing in the early 1970s. It fitted Wilson’s role as one of the period’s most reliable interpreters of soul material. It has remained a recognized Wilson cover in reggae reissue catalogues and compilations. The track’s continued circulation reflects the long-running reggae practice of reworking American soul songs.
