The Night

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons · 1972
Recording

Recorded in 1972 during the Four Seasons’ Motown-era sessions for Chameleon, with Bob Gaudio producing. The original single featured Frankie Valli on lead vocals and was issued by MoWest. The track was a failed U.S. commercial release at first, but it became a Northern soul favorite in Britain. Its 1975 UK reissue reached the Top 10 and restored attention to the group’s Motown period. The song remains one of the Four Seasons’ best-known Motown-era recordings and a durable Northern soul staple. Its reputation has outlasted its original chart life, especially in the UK.
