Nothing but a Heartache
The Flirtations · 1968Recording
Recorded in England after The Flirtations signed with Deram in late 1968. The single was produced by Wayne Bickerton and arranged by Johnny Harris, with Tony Waddington as co-writer. Released in November 1968, it became The Flirtations’ signature recording and a Northern soul favorite. In the United States, it reached the Billboard Hot 100 at a time when the group’s regional airplay was still building. The song remains the group’s best-known record and a durable Northern soul classic. It has continued to circulate through reissues, compilations, radio use, and later covers.
