Bucket Bottom Version

Bucket Bottom Version

Prince Alla · 2021
Recording

Recorded in Jamaica at Channel One and mixed at King Tubby’s, with Prince Alla backed by the Soul Syndicate. The version was issued on a Freedom Sounds single associated with Bertram Brown’s production circle. The track appeared in the late-1970s roots reggae era and sat alongside one of Prince Alla’s best-known songs, giving the single strong dancehall and sound-system appeal. Its dub counterpart reflects the King Tubby–era emphasis on version excursions and stripped-back rhythm work. Bucket Bottom remained a touchstone in Prince Alla’s catalog and was later revisited on compilations and re-riddim projects. The tune’s rhythm and version treatment continued to circulate in roots and dub circles, reinforcing its status as an underground classic.
