Skinhead Moonstomp
Symarip · 1969Recording
Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica in 1969 for Treasure Isle, with Roy Ellis and Monty Naismith as the principal writers. The original session was cut by Symarip with production credited to Graeme Goodall and Phil Chen. The track turned Symarip into one of the defining skinhead-reggae acts of the era and helped anchor the band’s reputation with the UK rude-boy and skinhead audience. Its 1980 reissue reached the UK Singles Chart, giving the song a late second life. The song became a durable ska and reggae standard, later covered by The Special AKA and sampled by multiple later artists. It remains one of Symarip’s best-known recordings and a fixture of skinhead-reggae compilations and revival sets.
