Harlem Shuffle

Bob & Earl · 1963
Recording

Bob & Earl recorded and released the single in 1963 for Marc Records. The record was produced by Fred Smith and arranged by Gene Page, with the duo credited as Bob Relf and Earl Nelson. The single gave Bob & Earl a modest U.S. hit and became their defining release. It peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the chart in December 1963. The opening horn fanfare from the original recording was later sampled by House of Pain for "Jump Around," and the song was also revived by the Rolling Stones in 1986. Its riff and groove have kept it in circulation as a widely recognized soul and pop source track.
