Truth And Rights
Johnny Osbourne · 1980Recording
Recorded in 1979 at Jamaica Recording Studio in Kingston after Johnny Osbourne returned from Canada. The session was produced by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd for Studio One, with the label’s house-band sound backing the track. The song served as a centerpiece of Osbourne’s Studio One comeback and helped define the second phase of his career. It became a roots-reggae staple tied closely to the classic Studio One catalog. “Truth and Rights” remained one of Johnny Osbourne’s signature recordings and continued to circulate through reissues, dub versions, and later reggae compilations. Its enduring reputation keeps it central to discussions of Studio One’s influence on roots and early dancehall.
