Eleanor Rigby
The Beatles · 1966Recording
Recorded at EMI Studios, Abbey Road, London, during the Revolver sessions in 1966. George Martin produced the session and wrote the string arrangement for a double string quartet, with Paul McCartney on lead vocal. The track became a defining example of The Beatles’ move beyond standard rock instrumentation into orchestral pop and lyric-driven storytelling. Its portrait of loneliness and anonymity gave Revolver one of its most discussed and enduring songs. The song has remained one of The Beatles’ most covered and analyzed recordings, and its string-based arrangement influenced later chamber pop and orchestral pop artists. It is widely cited as a landmark in bringing classical textures into mainstream rock.
