You Can't Hurry Love (Mono)
The Supremes · 1966Recording
Recorded at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit’s Studio A on June 11 and July 5, 1966, with The Supremes and Motown’s house musicians. The original single was issued on Motown 1097 and credited to Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier as producers. Released on July 25, 1966, it became The Supremes’ seventh U.S. number-one single and a signature Motown hit. It consolidated the group’s dominance in the summer of 1966 and helped sustain the A’ Go-Go album era. The song remains one of the defining Supremes recordings and is widely remembered as part of Motown’s core canon. Phil Collins’ 1982 cover carried it to number one in the UK, extending the song’s reach well beyond its original run.
