I Want to Tell You

The Beatles · 1966
Recording

Recorded at EMI Studios in London on 2 and 3 June 1966 during the Revolver sessions, with George Martin producing and Geoff Emerick engineering. George Harrison led the session, and the track was built around his sitar-tinged guitar part and stacked vocal arrangement. It stood out on Revolver as one of George Harrison’s first fully realized Beatles compositions, marked by its unconventional harmonic movement and restless lyrical questioning. The track helped establish Harrison as a major songwriter within the group. The song has remained a key example of the Beatles’ mid-1960s studio experimentation and Harrison’s growing authorship. It has been covered and cited by later artists for its chord changes, shifting meter feel, and distinctive guitar texture.
