Mr Farmer

The Seeds · 1966
Recording

Recorded in Hollywood in July 1966 during the sessions for A Web of Sound, with Sky Saxon, Daryl Hooper, Jan Savage, Rick Andridge, and studio bassist Harvey Sharp. Saxon produced the recording under the Marcus Tybalt pseudonym. Issued by GNP Crescendo as a 1966 single and re-promoted in 1967, Mr Farmer became one of the charting follow-ups to Pushin Too Hard. Its coded drug imagery drew radio resistance while helping define the band in the West Coast garage rock scene. The track remained a compact emblem of the band catalogue, appearing on More Nuggets: Classics from the Psychedelic Sixties Volume 2 and the Almost Famous soundtrack. Strawberry Alarm Clock later recorded a cover, extending its reach among later psychedelic revival audiences.
