Recording

Jimi Hendrix recorded Izabella with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles during the Band of Gypsys studio period at the Record Plant in New York. The single master was completed from February 1970 rough mixes prepared with engineers Dave Ragno and Bob Hughes. Izabella was issued by Reprise Records in 1970 as the B-side to Stepping Stone, Hendrix's final single released during his lifetime. The record presented the Band of Gypsys lineup in the studio and followed the group's live album success. Izabella remains an important document of Hendrix's post-Experience writing and the short-lived Band of Gypsys rhythm section. Later archive releases and Woodstock performances kept the song central to the late-1969 and early-1970 Hendrix repertoire.
