Dolly Dagger

Jimi Hendrix · 1971
Recording

Recorded from July to August 1970 at Electric Lady Studios in New York, with Jimi Hendrix on vocals and guitar, Billy Cox on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. Hendrix, Mitchell, Eddie Kramer and John Jansen produced the finished recording. Released posthumously on Rainbow Bridge and later as a single, the track showed the heavier rhythmic direction Hendrix was pursuing near the end of his life. It reached number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song remains one of Hendrix's best-known late studio recordings and a key example of his developing funk-oriented sound. Its riff, layered guitars and forceful rhythm section have made it a frequent inclusion on posthumous compilations and concert releases.
