Castles Made of Sand

Castles Made of Sand

Jimi Hendrix · 1978
Recording

The track was recorded for Axis Bold as Love by the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. The sessions took place at Olympic Studios in London in 1967 with Chas Chandler producing and Eddie Kramer engineering. Released on Axis Bold as Love in 1967, it became one of Hendrix most vivid narrative songs and a showcase for his backward guitar effects and melodic studio detail. Though not released as a charting single, it became one of the album most admired tracks. It remains one of Hendrix most celebrated compositions and has been covered by artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tuck and Patti. The song continues to stand as a key example of Hendrix lyrical storytelling and studio experimentation.
