One Rainy Wish

One Rainy Wish

Jimi Hendrix · 1981
Recording

Recorded on 29 October 1967 at Olympic Sound Studios in London during the sessions for Axis: Bold as Love. Jimi Hendrix performed guitar and vocals with Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums, while Chas Chandler produced and Eddie Kramer engineered. The track paired dreamlike colour imagery with an unusual shift from waltz-time verses to a four-beat chorus. It demonstrated Hendrix's growing sophistication as a songwriter and arranger beyond his guitar-driven singles. The song remains a valued deep cut from Axis: Bold as Love and an example of Hendrix's melodic, lyrical side. It has since been interpreted by artists including Brian May.
