Nobody Told Me

Nobody Told Me

John Lennon · 1984
Recording

Recorded in August 1980 at the Hit Factory in New York during the sessions that produced Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey. John Lennon sang and played guitar with Earl Slick, Hugh McCracken, Tony Levin, George Small and Andy Newmark, with Lennon and Yoko Ono producing. Released posthumously as the lead single from Milk and Honey, the song reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the UK Singles Chart. Its dry humour and energetic arrangement made it Lennon's final major solo hit. The song remains one of the best-known recordings from Lennon's final sessions and a frequently anthologised part of his solo catalogue. Its refrain became an enduring expression of the contradictions and absurdities of modern life.
