Jealous Guy

Jealous Guy

John Lennon · 1971
Recording

Recorded on 29 May 1971 during the Imagine sessions at Ascot Sound Studios in Tittenhurst Park, with John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Phil Spector, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner, and Alan White among the personnel involved. Lennon later finished the song with additional work in New York. It appeared on Lennon’s second solo album, Imagine, and became one of the album’s defining songs. Lennon described it as a direct confession of his own jealousy and possessiveness, which gave the track unusual emotional force on release. The song became one of Lennon’s best-known solo compositions and has remained a standard in his catalog. Its later life was amplified by major cover versions, especially Roxy Music’s 1981 UK No. 1 single.
