Your Song

Recorded at Trident Studios in London on 22 January 1970 during sessions for Elton John, with Paul Buckmaster arranging the orchestral parts. Elton John wrote the music to Bernie Taupin's lyric, and Gus Dudgeon produced the recording. Released by DJM Records in 1970, Your Song became Elton John's breakthrough single and his first major international hit. Its success established the John and Taupin songwriting partnership as a major new force in early 1970s pop. Your Song remains one of Elton John's signature recordings and one of the defining ballads of his catalogue. It has been widely covered, including major later versions by Rod Stewart, Ellie Goulding, and Lady Gaga.
