Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long, Long Time)
Elton John · 1972Recording
Recorded in January 1972 at Château d’Hérouville in France for the Honky Château sessions, with Elton John on piano and vocals and his touring band of Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray, and Nigel Olsson, produced by Gus Dudgeon. Released in 1972 as the lead single from Honky Château, it became Elton John’s first major global smash and one of the defining songs of his early-1970s run. It established the intimate-versus-expansive arrangement style that became central to his classic period. It remains one of Elton John’s signature recordings and one of the most durable songs in his catalog. Its arrangement, imagery, and chorus have been widely covered, referenced, and used in film, television, and popular culture.
