Songbird in a Cage

Recorded for Charlotte Gainsbourg's album Rest, with Paul McCartney writing the song and contributing guitar, piano and additional drums. Gainsbourg performed the lead vocal, while SebastiAn produced the recording. The track was the only song on Rest that Gainsbourg did not help write. Its collaboration with McCartney added a prominent guest contribution to an album otherwise centred on Gainsbourg's own lyrics and experiences. The recording remains a distinctive collaboration between Gainsbourg, McCartney and SebastiAn. It forms part of Rest, an album widely recognised for transforming grief and private experience into ambitious electronic pop.
