Deadly Valentine

Recorded during the year-long sessions for Rest, with Charlotte Gainsbourg writing the lyrics and SebastiAn composing, producing and arranging the track. The recording combines Gainsbourg's restrained vocal with programmed drums, synthesizers and sweeping orchestral strings. Released as a single in September 2017, the song transformed traditional wedding vows into an unsettling meditation on lifelong commitment. Pitchfork ranked it among the 100 best songs of 2017. The track became one of the defining recordings from Rest and one of Gainsbourg's most acclaimed songs. Its self-directed video, featuring Dev Hynes, extended its themes across a couple's imagined lifetime.
