Spinning Wheel
Wade Marcus · 1971Recorded for Wade Marcus’s debut album A New Era, issued by Cotillion in 1971. The album was recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios and Decca Recording Studios in New York, with Marcus handling the arranging and conducting duties on the project. This cover appeared on Marcus’s first solo LP and helped define the album’s hard-edged jazz-funk profile for Cotillion listeners in 1971. Review and record-shop descriptions singled out the track’s drum-break opening and strong groove as a standout cut. The track became a sampling source in hip-hop, with WhoSampled documenting later uses including Jungle Brothers’ “My Jimmy Weighs a Ton” and Tim Dog feat. KRS-One’s “I Get Wrecked.” Its reputation has endured as a digger favorite and a widely circulated cover of the Blood, Sweat & Tears original.
