The Wind

Cat Stevens · 1971
Recording

Recorded in 1971 at Morgan Studios in Willesden, London, during the Teaser and the Firecat sessions. Cat Stevens recorded it with Alun Davies, Larry Steele, Gerry Conway, Harvey Burns, and producer Paul Samwell-Smith. It opened Teaser and the Firecat and set the album’s reflective tone. The song was praised in contemporary reviews as one of Stevens’s strongest introspective pieces. The track became one of Stevens’s signature album cuts and later reached a wider audience through film use, including Almost Famous. It remains a key example of his early-1970s songwriting style.
