Don't You Pay Them No Mind

Nina Simone · 1966
Recording

Recorded in New York during the 1965–1966 sessions for High Priestess of Soul, with Nina Simone accompanied by a large orchestra. Hal Mooney arranged, conducted and produced the recording. Issued as a Philips single in 1966 and later placed as the opening track on High Priestess of Soul, the song paired Simone's restrained vocal with an expansive orchestral setting. It did not enter the principal United States singles charts. The recording remains associated with Simone's richly orchestrated Philips period and has appeared on later compilations and career retrospectives. A filmed performance was included in the To Be Free: The Nina Simone Story collection.
