Ramble On

Led Zeppelin · 1969
Recording

Recorded in New York in June 1969 at Groove Sound and Juggy Sound during sessions for Led Zeppelin II, the track was produced by Jimmy Page and engineered by Eddie Kramer. Robert Plant sang, Page played acoustic and electric guitars, John Paul Jones played bass, and John Bonham supplied drums and percussion. Its contrast between restrained acoustic verses and forceful choruses demonstrated the band's expanding musical range. Plant's references to Tolkien's Middle-earth introduced literary imagery into their songwriting. Rolling Stone ranked it fifth among Led Zeppelin's greatest songs in 2019. The band first performed the complete song live at their December 2007 reunion concert.
