Whole Lotta Love

Whole Lotta Love

Led Zeppelin · 1969
Recording

Recorded at London's Olympic Studios in 1969 with engineer George Chkiantz, the track was produced by Jimmy Page. Page and Eddie Kramer completed the mix at A&R Studios in New York, shaping its central passage of percussion, electronic effects and manipulated vocals. The opening track of Led Zeppelin II became the band's biggest American single, reaching number four in early 1970. Its prominent guitar riff and experimental production established an enduring model for amplified guitar music. Versions by CCS and Tina Turner extended the song's reach, with the CCS arrangement becoming associated with Top of the Pops. The original recording entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.
