Suspicious Minds

Elvis Presley · 1956
Recording

Recorded on 23 January 1969 at American Sound Studio in Memphis during Elvis Presley's celebrated comeback sessions. Chips Moman produced the performance with the studio's house musicians, including Reggie Young, Bobby Wood, Gene Chrisman, Mike Leech and Bobby Emmons. Released as a single in 1969, it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Presley's first American chart-topper in seven years. Its success confirmed the commercial revival begun by his 1968 television special and Memphis recordings. The song remains one of Presley's defining recordings and his final Billboard Hot 100 number-one single. Its dramatic arrangement and false fade have inspired numerous covers, including prominent versions by Fine Young Cannibals and Dwight Yoakam.
