Gangster of Love

Gangster of Love

Talking Heads · 1992
Recording

The track was assembled from Talking Heads outtakes from the Remain in Light and Naked sessions and finished in 1991 for release on the 1992 compilation Sand in the Vaseline: Popular Favorites 1976–1992. It was credited to the full band, David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth. It was one of the three newly finished songs created for Sand in the Vaseline, which packaged rare and unreleased material alongside the band’s better-known singles. Its appearance underscored that Talking Heads were still shaping unfinished studio material after the band’s active era had largely ended. The song remained exclusive to the 1992 compilation on CD for years and later resurfaced on the 2006 Bonus Rarities & Outtakes collection. It is remembered as a late-era Talking Heads deep cut that documents the band’s final studio revisiting of older ideas.
