It was finalized in 1992 at Sonic Sounds in Kingston, Jamaica, with Chaka Demus and Pliers sharing vocals on the same mic. The release was produced by Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, and Lloyd “Gitsy” Willis, with Jason Lee and Trish Farrell also credited on the original release. The song became Chaka Demus & Pliers’ signature hit and a major crossover dancehall record. It reached No. 27 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100, helping carry the duo from Jamaican hits to international recognition. The track has been sampled or interpolated in dozens of later songs and is still cited as one of the duo’s defining recordings.
