I Love Your Smile

Recorded for Shanice’s Inner Child era at Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California, with Narada Michael Walden producing and arranging. Louis Biancaniello handled keyboard and programming work, and Branford Marsalis contributed the saxophone solo. Released as the lead single from Inner Child in 1991, it became Shanice’s breakthrough crossover hit and a defining Motown single of the era. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent four weeks at No. 1 on the R&B chart. It remains Shanice’s signature recording and the song most closely associated with her career. Its upbeat hook, sax feature, and crossover success have kept it in regular oldies and ’90s R&B rotation.
