Recording

It was recorded at Stankonia Recording in Atlanta, Georgia, with Outkast working under their Earthtone III production alias. The track was cut during the Stankonia sessions and released as a single from the album in late 2000. The song became Outkast’s first single to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, holding the top spot for one week in February 2001. It also became one of the group’s defining crossover singles, with strong chart runs in the UK and other major markets. The track remains one of Outkast’s signature songs and a durable pop-culture reference point for the group’s mainstream breakthrough. Its wide recognition has kept it central to retrospectives on Stankonia and early-2000s hip-hop crossover success.
