You Are the Sunshine of My Life

Recorded for Talking Book in 1972, with Stevie Wonder handling the production and performance at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Released as a single from Talking Book, it became Stevie Wonder’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and one of the defining singles of his early-1970s breakthrough. It helped establish his run of landmark pop success after his move toward greater artistic control. It remains one of Stevie Wonder’s signature songs and a standard in his catalog, widely covered and frequently used to represent his classic period. The song’s enduring popularity has kept it in regular circulation across pop, soul, and adult-contemporary repertories.
