The Message

Cymande · 1972
Recording

Recorded for Cymande’s self-titled debut album and produced by John Schroeder. Released in 1972, the track helped introduce Cymande’s London-based funk band sound to U.S. audiences through Janus Records and became one of the group’s best-known early recordings. “The Message” remained a staple of Cymande’s catalogue during the group’s later rediscovery, benefiting from the wider revival of interest in their 1970s recordings among DJs and crate-diggers and appearing on subsequent reissues and compilations.
