Cymande · 1973Recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in London for Cymande's second album, Second Time Round, with producer John Schroeder and engineer Alan Florence, assisted by Bob Zimbler and Richard Goldblatt. Released in 1973 on Janus Records as part of Second Time Round and also issued as a single, 'Fug' showcased Cymande's distinctive rhythmic arrangements, melodic basslines and layered percussion. The recording helped establish the London-based group of Caribbean musicians within the American market following the success of their debut album. 'Fug' became a sought-after recording among DJs and collectors, attracting renewed attention through hip-hop sampling and the British rare-groove movement. Its inclusion in the 2007 video game Tony Hawk's Proving Ground and subsequent reissues of Second Time Round introduced the recording to new audiences.
