Give Me Your Love

Give Me Your Love

Curtis Mayfield · 1972
Recording

Recorded for the Super Fly soundtrack in 1972 at RCA Recording Studios in Chicago, Illinois. Curtis Mayfield produced the session, with Johnny Pate credited on the album as arranger and conductor. The song provided the soundtrack’s intimate counterpoint, accompanying the film’s much discussed bathtub sequence. On release, it was one of the album cuts that helped extend Super Fly beyond the singles and into easy listening and R&B playlists. It remains one of the best-known tracks from Super Fly and helped cement Mayfield’s reputation as a soundtrack architect as well as a singer-songwriter. Barbara Mason’s 1973 cover turned it into a pop and R&B hit, confirming the song’s crossover reach.
