Freaks of the Industry
Digital Underground · 1990Recording
Recorded for Digital Underground's debut album Sex Packets, released by Tommy Boy in March 1990. Shock G led the production and performance, with Money-B and DJ Fuze also part of the group's early recording lineup. Issued as a 1991 promotional single after Sex Packets, it extended the album's run beyond The Humpty Dance and Doowutchyalike. The track showcased the group's comic storytelling and P-Funk-rooted approach at the height of their first commercial breakthrough. It remains one of Digital Underground's best-known non-Humpty Dance records and a fixture of Sex Packets retrospectives. Its Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder writing connection reflects the group's sample-era link between disco, funk, and early-1990s rap.
