Oops Here I Go Again

Recorded in 1976 during the sessions for Edna Wright’s only solo album, Oops! Here I Go Again. The title track features Wright in a Greg Perry production with session players including Ray Parker Jr., David Pruitt, Chuck Boyd, Sylvester Rivers, William Smith, Larry Tolbert, and Leslie Bass. Issued in 1977 on RCA Victor, the track anchored Wright’s lone solo album and reflected a deliberate move away from disco toward polished soul. The record sold poorly at release, even as it later earned praise from soul reviewers and rare-groove collectors. The song became a much-circulated crate-digger favorite and was later sampled by De La Soul and other artists. Its afterlife has kept Wright’s solo work visible well beyond its original commercial run.
