Dub Be Good to Me

Dub Be Good to Me

Beats International · 1990
Recording

Recorded in London for Beats International’s debut-era sessions, with Norman Cook leading the project and Lindy Layton on vocals. The track was built around the Clash’s “The Guns of Brixton” bassline and the SOS Band’s “Just Be Good to Me.” The single became Beats International’s breakthrough hit and gave Norman Cook his first UK number one. Its sample-driven construction made it a defining example of the early-1990s collage approach in British club-pop. The track remains the group’s best-known recording and a signature early Norman Cook production. It is remembered as a touchstone for later sample-heavy crossover records associated with Cook’s Fatboy Slim era.
