Got Your Money (ft. Kelis)

Ol' Dirty Bastard recorded the track in 1999 at Quad Studios in New York with the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, and Kelis handled the chorus. Chad Hugo later recalled ODB writing lyrics and the intro during the session. Released as the lead single from Nigga Please, it became his most successful solo crossover and gave Kelis her first recorded appearance. The single’s bright, pop-leaning Neptunes production made it one of the album’s defining tracks. The song became one of Ol' Dirty Bastard’s signature solo records and has remained a ubiquitous early-2000s hip-hop reference point. Its hook, production style, and Kelis feature helped cement an enduring rap-and-R&B crossover template.
