It's Your Thing

Alton Ellis cut the song as a reggae cover of the Isley Brothers original, issued on Techniques in Jamaica and later reissued by Dub Store Records. The 2016 reissue pairs Ellis’s vocal with Vin Gordon’s instrumental version and credits Winston Riley as producer. The recording turned a 1969 U.S. funk hit into a Jamaican reggae reading and became a staple cover in Ellis’s catalog. It has been repeatedly reissued on reggae compilations and specialist labels, keeping it in circulation among collectors and reggae fans. The track remains one of the better-known reggae covers of the song and is documented in cover databases and reissue catalogs. Its continued appearance on compilations and modern reissues has kept Ellis’s version audible to later generations of listeners.
