Put a Little Love in Your Heart

Marcia Griffiths recorded the song for her 1974 solo album Play Me Sweet and Nice, with Lloyd Charmers on piano, Lloyd Parks on bass, Paul Williams on drums, and Willie Lindo on guitar. Harry Johnson and Tommy Cowan produced the session, with Buddy Davidson and George Raymond credited as engineers. The track appeared as a Trojan Records release on Griffiths’ debut solo LP, presenting her version of Jackie DeShannon’s song in a Jamaican reggae setting. It marked a key statement of her solo identity after her work with Bob & Marcia. The recording has remained part of Griffiths’ core Trojan-era catalog and has been reused on later retrospectives and compilations. It continues to represent her early-1970s solo work for new listeners.
