Recording

Q-Tip recorded the track in 1999 with Jay Dee contributing to the production credits. It was issued as the first solo single from his debut album Amplified. The single gave Q-Tip his biggest solo crossover, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming his highest-charting solo single. It also became one of his signature post-Tribe tracks and a key advance single for Amplified. The track remains one of Q-Tip’s best-known solo records and a defining example of his early solo sound. It has continued to circulate through film and television placements and later remix and sample use.
