Montell Jordan · 1999
Recording

Recorded in 1999 as the lead single for Montell Jordan’s fourth studio album, Get It On...Tonite, and built around a sample from Claudja Barry’s 1976 recording “Love for the Sake of Love.” It was produced by Brian “Lil Bee” Palmer and Sergio “PLX” Moore. The single gave Jordan a major crossover hit, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. It became his last solo Hot 100 top-ten entry. The track has remained a recognizable late-1990s R&B hit and was later sampled by Azealia Banks on “Esta Noche.” Its hook and beat have kept it in circulation through remixes, compilations, and later samples.
