Get It on Tonite

Montell Jordan recorded 'Get It On Tonite' for his fourth album This Is How We Do It, with production handled by Anthony Dent, building the track around a sample of Kleeer's 1979 disco-funk recording 'Tonight'. Released in 1999 on Def Soul Records, 'Get It On Tonite' reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Montell Jordan his biggest hit since his 1995 breakthrough 'This Is How We Do It' and demonstrating the continued commercial appeal of disco-sampled R&B at the close of the 1990s. The track stands as one of Montell Jordan's most successful later singles, reaffirming his place in late-1990s R&B during a period when disco-era sample-based production remained a dominant commercial strategy in mainstream urban radio.
