Daydreamin' (Album Version)

Tatyana Ali · 1998
Recording

Recorded in Los Angeles for Kiss the Sky at Enterprise II in Burbank and Pacifique Studios in North Hollywood, with Rodney Jerkins handling the track’s production, vocal production, arrangement, and engineering. The release also credits LaShawn Daniels on vocal production, arrangement, and engineering, with uncredited rap vocals from Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. Released in 1998 as Tatyana Ali’s lead single, it broke her into the mainstream and became her only Billboard Hot 100 entry. It peaked at No. 6 and helped establish Kiss the Sky as a gold-certified debut era. The song remains Ali’s signature hit and her most recognizable recording, remembered for its late-1990s R&B/pop crossover and the Steely Dan sample built into the track. Its hook and sample cleared a long afterlife in nostalgia programming, playlist culture, and later references to Ali’s music career.
