Flat Beat

Mr. Oizo · 1999
Recording

Written and produced by Quentin Dupieux, and cut at “Stupid 55” Studio with mixing by Dick Guy and Dupieux. It was released through F Communications in 1999 as the breakout single tied to the Flat Eric/Levi’s campaign. The track turned a short French electronic loop into a crossover club hit, helped by the Levi’s Sta-Prest commercials that introduced Flat Eric to a mass audience. In the UK it reached number one on the Official Singles Chart. It remains Mr. Oizo’s signature record and one of the best-remembered late-1990s electronic singles, still identified with Flat Eric and the original ad campaign. Its hook has kept the track visible in retrospectives on dance-music culture.
