Wombat
Wighnomy Brothers · 2005Recording
Released in 2005 by the Jena duo Wighnomy Brothers for Kompakt Extra’s Speicher 31 single, paired with Justus Köhncke and Fred Heimermann’s “Albatros” on the flip. Kompakt presented it as a summer 2005 track and singled out its bassline as the session’s standout. “Wombat” became one of the defining Speicher cuts of the mid-2000s. Kompakt described it as the duo’s most wicked bassline to that point and later called it arguably the most played Speicher track ever. The track remained a staple in DJ sets and compilation appearances, helping cement the Wighnomy Brothers’ reputation for melodic, bass-driven club records. It continues to be cited as a signature Speicher release and an enduring reference point for the Kompakt sound.
